Signage System

After moving to a new building, California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) asked me to design a new signage system that would help educate visitors about the center and their research into various technologies and techniques used to achieve energy efficient lighting.

California Lighting Technology Center was planning to set up a number of displays throughout the building, constructing a wide variety of spaces in the building and demonstrating the use of different technologies in these spaces. The signage system would be used to describe these technologies and their function to visitors to the building in guided and unguided tours.

My chief concern in my design was in creating a system that was flexible and modular so that signage could fit many different areas easily. The signage had to be visible to visitors yet unobtrusive, as many of the places where signage would be placed would also be work and research areas. The signs also had to be changeable as demonstrations were expected to be replaced once in a while.
